Thunder Bay is recruiting for Locum Nuclear Medicine Physician 


 The Diagnostic Imaging Service at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre is currently looking for locum Nuclear Medicine Specialists to provide intermittent call coverage. 


TBRHSC is a state of the art, 395 funded bed acute care facility. Our hospital provides coverage to a regional population base of 250,000 people and delivers all services, which will include Cardiac Surgery by 2025. TBRHSC is the Regional Trauma Centre and Cancer Referral Centre for Northwestern Ontario. The hospital provides a full-service Nuclear Medicine program. Applicants should be comfortable with general and cardiac nuclear medicine studies, cardiac stress testing, bone densitometry, PET and radioisotope therapy. Experience with IQ-SPECT cardiac interpretation or brain SPECT would be an asset. 


The Nuclear Medicine department currently consists of 2 state-of-the-art Siemens Intevo 16 SPECT/CT cameras with IQ-SPECT and xSPECT capabilities, 1 dual-headed GE MG gamma camera, 1 single-headed GE MPR gamma camera and a GE Lunar Prodigy bone densitometer. Our current Philips Gemini 64-slice PET/CT is being replaced with a new Siemens Biograph Vision next March. TBRHSC uses Hermes software for image analysis and interpretation. 


The preferred candidate will have or be eligible for licensing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and will qualify for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Specialty certification in Diagnostic Radiology is not required. Dual trained candidates will be considered on a case-by-case basis but should be aware that this is a Nuclear Medicine position and must be comfortable providing the full range of Nuclear Medicine services. 


This opportunity is eligible for reimbursement of travel expenses and honorarium payments through the Northern Specialist Locum Program (NSLP).

Pre-Clinical Imaging Scientist/Research Associate (#22911)


INTRO

CNL has recently procured a high performance small animal preclinical PET/SPECT/CT Imaging system and is in the process of establishing a multi-purpose in vivo rodent imaging laboratory. There is an immediate need for a Pre-Clinical Imaging Scientist/ Research Associate. CNL is seeking an early career scientist who will be instrumental in developing and providing a molecular imaging platform that will support the preclinical evaluation of targeted agents for imaging and/or therapy of cancer. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with interdisciplinary preclinical project teams to develop and implement advanced imaging techniques for radiopharmaceutical agents. They will be responsible for designing and enhancing rodent imaging and therapeutic studies, serving as a Subject Matter Expert, analysing preclinical data and disseminating results to internal project teams, stakeholders, customers, and federal and academic partners. CNL is seeking a highly motivated candidate with demonstrated experience in molecular imaging and the ability to work as part of a collaborative research.


DUTIES

The incumbents overall responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Manage all aspects of in vivo rodent Imaging Facility to support drug discovery, preclinical research and basic research, including research protocols, radiation safety/shielding, dosimetry.

· Ensure Facility regulatory compliance and application of ALARA Principles.

· Oversee required changes to the Radioisotope Laboratory and/or Radiological Zoning documentation, as required.

· Responsibility for imaging equipment maintenance, repair and upgrades.

· Apply practical and theoretical knowledge and provide guidance for preclinical imaging equipment, instrumentation and software analysis for a variety of imaging modalities, which may include CT, PET, SPECT, Cerenkov, and Optical systems.

· Manage and configure imaging-related software packages and software licenses, data acquisition, image repositories and data pipelines in consultation with CNL IT department end users and vendors.

· Consult on radio-labelling of vectors and conjugates and dose calibrations for radio–isotope administrations for in rodents for in vivo imaging or therapeutic studies.

· Evaluate and develop imaging and therapeutic strategies for novel isotopes (including alpha emitters) and radio immune-conjugates /probes/biomarkers in animal tissues and cells.

· Develop,modify, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

·  Mentor and train staff on equipment and software operational, analytical and calibration processes.

·  Act as technical subject matter expert for relationships with academic researchers, imaging-related vendors, commercial customers and stakeholders.


QUALIFICATIONS

· Doctoral degree in medical physics, applied mathematics, biomedical engineering, or related fields, with up to five years’ experience post-graduation.Experience in molecular imaging is essential, and preclinical PET/SPECT/CT imaging is preferred. Alternatively, a M.Sc. degree with 3-8 years of relevant experience in Preclinical Molecular Imaging in an industrial or academic setting is required.

· An advanced understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of equipment and software applications used for preclinical imaging using PET, SPECT, CT, Optical or other relevant imaging modalities.

· Operational Experience coordinating, conducting and analysing preclinical imaging studies and previous experience working at an in vivo imaging platform with multi-modality imaging expertise is desirable.

· Experience with imaging data analysis with common imaging applications and software and experience with programming languages is highly desirable.

· Prior experience working with radiopharmaceutical agents, both imaging and therapeutic.

· Demonstrated independence in experimental design, data analysis and interpretation and track record of successful internal and external scientific collaborations.

· Prior experience with rodent preparation and monitoring in imaging systems would be considered an asset.

· Ability to independently assess and make recommendations concerning the maintenance and upgrade of preclinical imaging equipment and software.

· Knowledge of radiation protection is desired, and Group-2 Radiation Protection training is required (provided by CNL).

· Ability to independently perform data analysis and deliver written and oral summaries of work.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills.

· Ability to interact professionally and confidently with collaborators, customers and users, and to provide training to CNL internal staff.

· Excellent problem identification and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.

· Operational Experience coordinating, conducting and analysing preclinical imaging studies and previous experience working in a rodent in vivo imaging facility with cross-imaging modality expertise is desirable.

· Experience with imaging data analysis with common imaging applications and software and experience with programming languages is preferred.
